My Garden of Hesperides...
is nestled in the rolling hills of Washington Vermont.
Our homestead rests on 20 acres of mixed woods, dotted with naturally sown apple trees, pasture, foot trails, natrual springs which lead to a babbling brook that feed our ponds.
Our property is home to a wide variety of wildlife from the tufted titmouse to white tail deer...and ofcourse, our incredible herd and family. |

HespeGarden's Mission
- Promote the viability of camelids as partners in sustainable, non-synthetic agriculture.
- Down to Earth approach to sustainable agriculture through superior animal husbandry, utilizing all phases of life to promote affordable products and services.
- Provide a safe haven for camelids (alpacas & llamas) in need.

The concept of My Garden of Hesperides originated as a gentlewoman’s hobby farm in 2006. Since then it has blossomed into a ranch raising alpacas, llamas, and poultry, practicing nature’s fundamental symbiotic relationships. This principle enables HespeGarden to provide superior animal husbandry, promotion of camelids as sensible partners for non-synthetic agriculture, and provide affordable products & services. |

What is "symbiotic" agriculture?
Ok...so a symbiotic relationship is a term commonly used in biology to explain the relationship between two entities that need each other to survive and prosper.
A symbiotic relationship in it's purest form can be found when one entity partners with another to achieve a common goal. It is as simple as a honeybee collecting pollen from an apple blossom. The flower's pollen provides the bee with protein and its nectar for energy. As the bee travels from flower to flower, tree to tree; the flower's reproduction process begins.
The bee benefits by providing pollen to the hive in which they create honey. The apple trees benefit to produce fruit. The bee needs the flower to survive, the flower needs the bee to survive.
These are positive sum relationships. So why not apply the most basic natural processes to reduce my workload and expenses while enhancing animal health, happiness and overall yields. Umm....no brainer for this gal!
I am always learning from nature! Sometimes it just takes time to study nature at work and then experiment. Yes, there are naysayers out there, but hey, this practice works for me. |
